PORT LOUIS TIMES — A vessel reported missing Friday morning with four people aboard has been found on the ocean floor off of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
A Coast Guard crew found the missing vessel, a 40-foot water taxi known as a catamaran, off the coast of Punta Capa, Puerto Rico, the Coast Guard said in a news release issued Friday evening.
The crew found the vessel in an area where weather could have damaged the vessel, but the Coast Guard also said the vessel’s mechanical systems were still working when it was found.
“The Coast Guard has been working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection to find the missing catamaran,” the Coast Guard said in a statement. “At about 10:30 p.m. Friday, our team was notified by USBP that they found the catamaran on the ocean floor in an area where weather could have damaged the vessel.”
U.S. Border Patrol released a statement Friday evening confirming the agency had found the catamaran and said it “has been secured and is now in Coast Guard custody.”
The search for the missing vessel and people on board will resume Monday, the Coast Guard said.
